Review: The young Knowledge Is Power imprint returns with a sultry VA compilation, put together with a noticeable care and attention to detail, and spanning just about every genre worth vibing to at the moment. We got a selection of new talent, too, with the likes of $D$ making his debut with 'St Dreamer', a trap-leaning experiment sampling Mobb Deep, followed by Drime's gritty, grime-filtered 'M Dance' riddim.

Aranha's 'Radium' is deep and subby, recalling some neo-stepperz business, while Rafe's 'Direct Circuit' pushes the grime stabs out, and Umpah's 'South Weezy' takes that same inspiration on some next sci-fi tip - TIP! Review: Belgium's busy Pelican Fly label has been dropping bombs of all shapes and sizes over the last five or so years, and they show no sign of stopping or slowing down if this new scorcher by 1180 is anything to go. While his previous - and debut - release for the label was a harsh, aggressive shade of trance, this new single 'Lick It' verges onto the juke end of the bass spectrum. With a fluttering vocal with the vocal 'work it'on repeat, 1180 launches a fiery, stuttering groove boasting a stop-start flex that is bound to cause some serious uproar in the dancehall - just wait for that bass to drop, son!

Review: When 123MRK's Noname EP dropped in 2011 creating waves all around the dubstep and bass music scene. Moulding the sound of his generation into a style all his own, the Frenchman suddenly found himself held aloft as an innovator as well as simply a producer of sounds. This remixed release of his seminal EP was a lofty undertaking and the finished item features remixes from some of the future dubstep scene's brightest young stars alongside long-time innovators. From Liar's metalic, lo-fi flavours to Troy Gunner's understated clicks and swirls; ViLLAGE's heart-pounding house remodelling to Heblank's old-school twist, even the likes of Pixelord and ReSketch play their garage-influenced hands to create an all-new modern-day canvas of what exactly bass music is right at this moment. It can never be truly defined, but this is a pretty good encyclopedia. Review: Culled from last year's debut album Trust, this remix collection comes from artists that 18+ respect and occasionally collaborate with.

Suicideyear's take on 'Cake' is a dreamy, entrancing affair, with haunting electronic melodies and half-heard vocals set to push the listener into a trance. It's followed by the huge bass drops and dissected vocals of Mr Mitch's take on 'Nectar', with Tia Maria Producoes' remix of 'OIXU' is in a similar vein thanks to its massive subs. Birds cawing, clicking thumb percussion and techno bleeps comprise Audri Nix's reshape of 'Crow', while Mr Mitch goes into melodic, atmospheric mode for his remix of 'Nectar'. Review: After a string of mixtapes that announced them to the world, US duo 18+ follow up a 7' single for Houndstooth with their debut album, weaving an enchanting tale of melancholic electronica across 14 rapid fire tracks. The production comes on simple and direct, using certain trap influences in the downtempo beats to ensure the focus is on the vocalists. The interplay between the boy-girl pair works a treat, adding to the moody sensuality of the music. Still they manage to keep a certain androgynous iciness in the mix, like all dark-tinged electronic music needs to cast its enchanting spell.

Review: The unstoppable juggernaut of forward-thinking electronics that surges out of Houndstooth HQ gets another boost in its poppier climes from release debutants 18+, who mix noirish pop, bass and a dash of trip hop with a healthy dose of boy-girl chemistry across two short and sweet tracks. 18+ purports to be a loose-fit multimedia concern, but here the myriad creative ventures get distilled into a pair of distinct cuts that share the over-arching experimental spirit of Houndstooth. 'Crow' (so titled because of an insistent bird call running through the track) has a sweet melancholy about its poignant bleep refrain and tender vocals, while 'Horn' works its own titular device into clamouring, nightmarish backdrop to strained MCing that comes from the same dystopia that birthed Pre-Millenium Tension. Review: You could say that 18+ have been one of the best finds from the Houndstooth lot. You could also say that the LA-based duo are the ones truly shaping the leftfield field of the label's catalogue, which is packed with more concrete shades of house or techno elsewhere.
